Lutheran Senior Services Communities

from:

Senior living communities are available in all states. Some are privately owned and others are church-sponsored. There are a number of senior living communities sponsored by the Lutheran church. They work on the philosophy of total health care for the aged: body, mind, and soul. Although the Lutheran church sponsors them, you don’t have to be Lutheran to apply for residency there.

The church’s commitment to the elderly population is evident in the social and economic services they make available. They provide affordable housing, in-home health, and pastoral care. They are spread out across the United States with some in Missouri and others in Illinois. There are a variety of aged programs affiliated with the Lutheran church and contacting the local church would probably help to determine what is available in your area. They offer transportation to their residents and life enrichment programs.

Lutheran senior services have a commitment to providing low-income housing for the elderly. Some of their communities only require the rent to be 30% of the adjusted income for eligible seniors, who should be 62 years of age or older. President Bush visited one of the Lutheran senior services communities in recognition of their commitment to the aged and his own attempt to provide support in the form of a medication drug prescription plan. Lutheran senior services also provide services to help with daily errands, meals, bathing, companionship, and other caregiver responsibilities.

Lutheran senior services aren’t just for those that have health needs. They provide home and care that enhances and reaffirms life, even having licensed beauticians involved in the community to provide hairdressing, manicures, and pedicures. Should residents need to have injections or medication management by a professional, however, skilled nurses are made available for community members as well.

The communities can be quite large with apartments and single residential homes on the campus. Some of them are located in scenic vistas overlooking water. There are a variety of housing options from condos to cottages at different Lutheran senior services centers. The communities can provide common areas for seniors and many amenities like banking, private meeting rooms, libraries, computer and media rooms, and pools and spas. The grounds and homes are maintained by a staff of professionals who care for the community’s structures as part of the Lutheran senior services offered there.

Although the Lutheran church sponsors many of the centers, the community is open to people of all faiths. There is a chapel available with services given regularly in these communities. They do include Bible study as some of their planned activities, along with arts and crafts, socials, movies and exercise classes. There is a wide range of services in any of these communities and they are well worth looking into when you are planning your new retirement home.
